Donte Stallworth

Hi All!

First I want to say sorry I missed blogging yesterday! Life is hectic with the move and all. I would like to talk about Donte Stallworth today. Donte Stallworth on Tuesday pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter. He will serve 30 days in jail, 2 years house arrest, 8 additional years of probation, lifetime licence ban, 1000 community service hours and an undisclosed monetary settlement (he has two insurance policies that could potentially cover the settlement). The question to ask is does the punishment fit the crime? There is not a simple answer to this question.

As an educator one who focuses on talking to students about consequences for their actions my guy reaction is absolutely not! It seems that Donte Stallworth made a decision to drive impaired and he took another person's life. How do you explain to a student that a human life is only worth 30 days in prison. Additionally how do you tell a student that if you can pay someone you can get off. As I jump into this more in my work life I want students to take one lesson from this. The lesson is that if you make a mistake it is important to take responsibility and act like an adult. I will give Donte credit for how he handled it afterwords. This is something that students need to learn. They need to understand that taking responsibility is key to starting over. Running, lying, etc only compounds the mistake.

As a sports fan I wonder how far it is for Donte Stallworth to serve 30 days and eventually go back to work. In my job if I killed someone I would never get another job. My career that I have worked hard at would be over! I also find it hypocritical that Mike Vick served approximately 2 years for killing dogs, and Plexico Burress will serve more than Donte Stallworth and he only harmed himself. I hope that Roger Goddell suspends for life. Killing another persons, accidentally or not, is something that I cannot understand. If Goddell does not do the right thing I hope GMs and Owners do the right thing.

So I guess my answer to the question is Donte got off too easy is yes. I hope that Donte does the right thing from now on and he has learned, however, I cannot believe that a human life is worth 30 days.

Moving

Last night my wife and I began the process of moving! This is a tirelessly process one that has happened way too often. However, I hopefully this will be the last move for several years. We are doing a slow move. This has relieved a lot of the stressed involved. I would suggest this process to anyone. The other suggestion I have for people who are moving is to hire movers. The last two moves we used movers and it was worth every cent. I will keep you posted on the process.

Thanks

"Hangover"

Last week I saw the movie "Hangover." This was an amazing movie! The cast is comedy genius! Ed Helms (Andy from the Office) is creating his own comic style. He plays nerdy/slightly insane characters magnificently. Zach Galifianakis made the movie. He played a character that was clearly unstable. His acting reminded of how Steve Carrell stole the movie as Brick in "Anchorman."

Rated R comedy are coming back to the forefront. I did not believe that I could see a better comedy than last summer's "Step-Brothers," but "Hangover" has far surpassed "Step-Brothers." Part of that is the fact that the actors are newer to the scene and we have not taken their greatness for granted as we have with Will Ferrell.

This is a definite must see! Do not miss this movie.

Championship Weekend

Congratulations to Pittsburgh and LA!

Sid the Kid-youngest captain ever to win a Stanley Cup. Tell Alex the Great to beat that! Oh wait he can't!

Kobe-I'm a Celtics fan but I am happy for you. I hate Shaq!!!! I am glad you got one without him. Also you are by far a better player than Lebron!

That's my two cents!
